What is Information Literacy?

Information Literacy at Seabury Hall

Our library program's definition of information literacy:

Information literacy is the ability to maneuver easily throughout the various, ever-changing information systems, in order to be active participants of the global learning community.

Yes, learning how to conduct research is at the top of the library program's priorities. But information literacy means more. It means knowing:

  • how to organize one's work, including note-taking and preparing for tests
  • how to be secure, safe, and responsible Internet citizens, and
  • how to create a positive digital footprint: including (1) curation and (2) content creation

Our library program focuses on providing opportunities for students to learn all of these information literacy skills.

    Calling all Seabury Hall experts

Dear Seabury students, teachers, parents, and alumni,

Our entry into the LibGuides community is a huge, positive step toward raising the information literacy bar at Seabury Hall.

I have set up our LibGuides so that anyone in the Seabury Hall community who wants to contribute to the LibGuides content can.

Please contact me if you'd like to help us build the LibGuides community foundation.
